First cohort of CILEx Practitioners recognised at CILEx Regulation launch
At last night’s launch of CILEx Regulation, the new name for the regulator of Chartered Legal Executives, CILEx members, CILEx practitioners and entities, the first recipients of new practice rights were presented with their certificates.
Scott Morris, Dr Ruth Hendry and Dr Frantz Iwu have all been awarded independent practice rights after applying for authorisation from CILEx Regulation. The certificates were presented by CILEx Regulation chair Alan Kershaw at an event held at the headquarters of insurance brokers Marsh.
Alan Kershaw, chair of CILEx Regulation said; “These developments create the new environment where anyone wishing to start out on a legal career can now do that, from professional cradle to grave, through the CILEx route. They can do so knowing that the end point could be not fellowship in itself, not the opportunity to progress to another title altogether, but the right to practise the law, in any area where they can show competence, not as someone’s employee but in their own name, and, if they wish, in the name of their own business.”
Practice Rights Award WinnersScott Morris said: “I feel very privileged to be the first CILEx member to receive these new practice rights. I’m grateful for the opportunities the CILEx route has offered me, and as I work towards partnership in my firm and Fellowship of the institute, I want to thank everyone who has supported me along the way.”
Dr Ruth Hendry said: “Qualifying as a Chartered Legal Executive, and achieving these new practice rights, was a hard slog – but it’s all worth it when you get the approval from CILEx Regulation. I’d encourage anyone thinking of applying to go for it.”
Dr Frantz Iwu said: “The opportunity to qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive and run my own practice providing immigration services is tremendous. It is a challenge to meet the high standards CILEx Regulation expect, but being authorised by them for immigration practice means my clients can place trust in the quality of my work.”
The event was opened by Jane Barker, chair of Marsh Ltd, and heard from Baroness Dianne Hayter, who supported CILEx Regulation in securing these new practice rights. Baroness Hayter said; “I want to compliment CILEx Regulation on the efforts it has made to increase opportunities for CILEx members. It’s chair Alan Kershaw, and CEO Ian Watson, both deserve enormous credit for their work, and for changing the face of legal services in this country.”
